Herzogstandbahn gondola
Approx. 10 km from the campground, via Krün to Wallgau to Walchensee, you’ll rise 1731 m above the valley station in a four-person gondola. The views of the Alpine foothills from the top are glorious, as would be a hike to Mt. Heimgarten (approx. 1 hour). You also have the option of hiking down to Urfeld in about 4 hours, although you’ll then have to catch a bus to get back to your automobile.
Eckbauerbahn
Approx. 15 km from the campground by way of the main road to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Upon entering town, turn left toward the Olympic Ski Stadium. The valley station is located here at the stadium. Beautiful starting point for hiking to Wamberg, Germany’s highest village (approx. 1 hour), Elmau (approx. 3 hours) or into the Partnachklamm Gorge (approx. 2 hours). (suitable for children 4 and up).
Zahnradbahn / Seilbahn Zugspitze
Approx. 13 km from the campground. Accessible via cog railway from Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the rear of the DB railway station or via either cog railway or cable car from Eibsee. Skiing on the Zugspitzplatt plateau below the summit from November to May. Enjoy Germany’s most impressive view of the Alps and foothills from the summit station or from Münchner Haus. Hikes include to Ehrwald via the Gatterl (approx. 6 hours) and to Garmisch-Partenkirchen via the Reintal valley (approx. 8 hours). Experienced climbers with proper equipment can descend into Höllental (approx. 8 hours).
Karwendelbahn
Approx. 8 km from Tennsee off the B 2 motorway toward Mittenwald. Spectacular view over the upper Isar valley deep into the Alps from the panoramic vista point at the mountain station (2244 m). This station is also the starting point for many different hikes: Heinrich-Nohe trail (approx. 4 hours), Mittenwalder Höhenweg (approx. 5 hours). Option to get off at Dammkar (450 m tunnel), valley hike (approx. 5 hours).
Kreuzeck/Osterfelderbahn
Approx. 18 km from the campground, by way of the main road to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the direction of Grainau-Fernpass. By cable car to Kreuzeck or to Osterfelderkopf which is the starting point for hikes down to Kreuzeck (approx. 2 hours) or into Höllental to the Höllentalangerhütte lodge (approx. 4 hours). You can also follow the via ferrata to Alpspitze (approx. 2 hours) and then down to Kreuzeck via the southern flank (approx. 4 hours).
Hausbergbahn
Approx. 16 km from the campground, by way of the main road to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the direction of Grainau-Fernpass. The spacious cars of the lift whisk you to approx. 1374 m and the starting point for hiking to Kreuzeck (approx. 2 hours), Partnachklamm (approx. 3 hours) or back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (approx. 2 hours). (suitable for children 4 and up).
Laber-Bergbahn
Approx. 32 km from the campground, enjoy a scenic ride up 1684 m to Laber Mountain on the nostalgic Laber Ropeway. Suitable for children 3 and up.
Roßkopfbahn
Enjoy the clear mountain air, breathtaking views, wonderful hiking trails of all levels of difficulty.
