A journey through time: The development of the Alpen-Caravanpark Tennsee

During World War II, the grounds of what is now the Alpen-Caravanpark Tennsee served as a Reich Labor Service camp. It was used to cultivate the surrounding "Buckelwiesen" (hummock meadows), straighten the Kranzbach stream, build paths, and carry out land consolidation. After the war, restoring the land to its original condition was no longer feasible, so special usage permission was granted.

1953 After years of indecision, Karl Zick opened the site as a campground and recorded 2,000 overnight stays in the first year alone.

1955 Using lottery winnings of DM 17,000, the “Motel” was built to serve as accommodation for travelers and as a washroom for campers. Together with the DCC (German Camping Club), a winter rally was held during Christmas. Due to its great success, both winter and summer camping became a permanent offering.

1963 Armin Zick takes over the campground from his father, Karl Zick.

1967 The first large service building is constructed, equipped with state-of-the-art sanitary facilities, such as draft-free washrooms and private wash cabins. This building also serves as a restaurant, shop, and reception area. The “Motel” is converted into a residence. In the 1970s and 1980s, camping tourism boomed, and Campingplatz Tennsee gained recognition far beyond regional borders, becoming beloved by both transit and holiday guests who consider Krün their second home.

Encouraged by this positive development, old wood was diligently collected, and the expansion of the campground moved forward.

1983–1985 After a lengthy approval process, a two-year construction period leads to the creation of today’s reception building and restaurant. The sanitary building is expanded with more wash cabins and toilets. The site becomes one of Europe’s most modern campgrounds, featuring its own gas distribution line, fresh and wastewater connections at each pitch, electricity, telephone, and TV hookups. This sets new standards in the camping industry. Dedicated childcare and high-season activities for all ages are introduced.
